Weekly Update February 28, 2025

February 28, 2025

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

March always seems to sneak up on us, especially with February being such a short month! We’ve had a strong start to the year—with exciting progress on our Merton Manor Refresh project, a variety of engaging activities, and the successful launch of our new Electronic Medical Records system, which is helping us work more efficiently. As we step into March, the final month of the first quarter, there’s much to look forward to—longer days with Daylight Saving Time just around the corner, giving us more time to enjoy the outdoors!

If you’ve been in Merton Manor recently, you may have noticed the progress we’ve made, including new carpeting on the second floor! As we remove the old flooring, we are addressing any underlying issues we discover along the way. Starting Monday, contractors will be placing the flooring on the 2nd floor between the Merton and Manor buildings.  We appreciate your patience as we work through these enhancements and will do our best to keep you informed of any changes that may affect you.

We’re thrilled to announce that Sheila Lucas has been promoted to Wellness Manager! Sheila has been an integral part of our Residential and Assisted Living Campus as Charge Nurse, and in her new role, she will oversee medication carts, assist with care planning and doctor appointments, support charge nurses, and make daily visits—all while continuing to collaborate closely with our Director of Residential Health and Wellness. With this transition, we also welcome Ashley Leiva, LVN, as our new Charge Nurse in Residential and Assisted Living. Please take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome her! Ashley will be assisting with the responsibilities Sheila previously managed. We are so proud to promote from within our community and celebrate the growth of our dedicated team.

To help us serve you better, we kindly remind you to submit Work Orders for any non-urgent maintenance or assistance needs. Forms are available at the Front Desk and Nursing Stations, and our goal is to address all requests within 72 hours. However, if you experience an emergency—such as a leak or an overflowing sink—please report it immediately so we can respond promptly.

For your convenience, we’ve established a direct extension for our Laundry Supervisor, Erica Tamayo—she can now be reached at extension 240. Additionally, Spenser Wells, our Administrative Coordinator and tech wizard, has a new work number. As always, our Front Desk team is available to assist with Work Orders and, in an emergency, they will contact the appropriate team member right away. We kindly ask that you respect the personal time of our staff by using these designated work numbers rather than their personal cell phones. Your understanding is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for being part of the Solheim family and for helping to make our community such a welcoming and supportive place to live and work.

All staff in our Skilled Nursing Campus must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask or higher-level respirator. Visitors to our Health Center (Skilled Nursing) are required to wear a mask and will be offered a COVID-19 antigen test before entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323-257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
